Minnesota Must Say No to This Mega Factory Farm Proposal
Published by Minnesota Star Tribune
A Minnesota dairy is proposing an expansion that would make it the largest factory farm in state history. If approved, this unprecedented operation would pose profound threats to Minnesota’s water and rural communities.
Riverview LLP, one of the largest milk producers in the country, has applied for permits to dramatically expand its operation in Morris, Minn. If built, the expanded facility will hold a total of more than 26,000 cows, nearly twice as many animals as the second-largest operation in the state and 60 times more than the average Minnesota dairy.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), which is responsible for issuing feedlot permits, is currently reviewing Riverview’s plans. The Land Stewardship Project is calling for the MPCA to require a full Environmental Impact Statement and is urging Minnesotans to submit comments on the project to the MPCA before the April 9 deadline.
